AMA Overview

Automotive Management Accreditation is a voluntary accreditation scheme designed to improve management and consistency of management within the retail industry.

The assessment process

The design is based on a one day assessment approach in the workplace that measures the critical competences required to be a competent manager or leader in our sector.

This is achieved via the following component approaches:

  1. Prior to the assessment day an online 360 survey is carried out by the candidate, candidates direct reports, peers and direct line manager
  2. The assessor arranges the assessment day that works for the candidate and their organisation,  and explains to the candidate what will happen on the day
  3. The AMA accredited assessor spends between four to six hours onsite to carry out a professional discussion, evaluate a team communication/engagement exercise, evaluate a recent business improvement, set up and invigilate an online test.  The candidate signs the Code of Conduct at this stage.
  4. The assessor arranges a suitable day for the candidate to receive the results and feedback.  This happens within two weeks of the assessment taking place.  On this day a PDF report including a personal profile gap analysis and full results, PDF 360 appraisal is emailed to the candidate and the assessor gives feedback via the phone.
  5. If successful the manager or leader will then receive their AMA certificate, AMA card, Personal Identification Number (PIN) and password (for access to their personal AMA web records), be entered on to the AMA professional register and will receive the AMA e-newsletter.
  6. Signposting of CPD opportunities, management and industry news will be provided to the AMA managers and leaders via the e newsletter while they remain accredited.
  7. AMA Accreditation and recognition of current competence will last for five years after which the manager will require reassessment to remain on the register.

There are 3 different levels of progression that will recognise managers and leaders in the different job roles across the retail automotive industry and its sub-sectors.

  • First line manager (qualification level 3)
  • Middle manager (qualification level 5)
  • Senior manager (qualification level 7)
